“Buy A Brick” Fundraiser

By Georgina Kiraly

The “Buy a Brick” campaign has come to a successful completion!
First, to those of you who bought a brick for yourself, your family and/or friends, “Thank you!”  and “Congratulations!” for being a part of this community project - and for supporting the new hall!
Background
Once the “Buy a Brick” campaign was approved by the Uprava, we consulted with our architect, Peter Lesdow and with Branko Krkljus, to identify locations suitable for the brick installation.   By the time the project was approved, hall construction had progressed to a point where an ideal location was no longer available.  Although the two small areas we were given were well placed near the hall entrance, the spaces and the existing curbs presented many challenges. Thankfully, we were able to overcome these and complete the installation.
After researching the church records back to 1957, and reaching out to individuals and families in our congregation – past and present, near and far - 270 bricks were ordered, and $38,650 was raised for our new hall.
With Gratitude
Our thanks to Kirkpatrick Stoneworks for donating the engraving work on the centrepieces; to St Catharines Building Supplies for donating shipping costs,  and to Dale Williams of Stone Engraving Ontario,  for bringing this project to a successful completion, in spite of his serious illness.
And special thanks go out to my husband, Richard Sereda, who worked tirelessly with me on the project from beginning to end;  to my sister, Joanne Vasic, who worked by our sides throughout the installation; and to Mara Smiljanich, who managed the financial records for the project over many months.
Tax Receipts
Tax receipts will be issued in early 2021.  Any questions or concerns should be directed to Vanya Vujic or Denise Mateyk.
In Conclusion
It has been my pleasure to work on this project – and to raise funds for the new hall.    It is my hope that the community will also take pleasure in the brick installation for many years to come!
